Alamerd

Talysh · numen · Talysh traditional religion; continuing · numen

Alamerd is a wild man of the forest in Talysh belief, a large, hairy, man-shaped creature that dwells in the wooded mountains and is dangerous to people who cross its path. He belongs to the broad family of 'wild-man' beings found across the Caucasus and Central Asia, and Talysh tradition sets beside him a kindred spirit, the wilderness ghoul Biabanguli, so that the deep forest and lonely waste are peopled by these menacing man-like figures.
