Ancient Tamil god of war, beauty and the hill-country (kuṟiñci), called the 'god of the Tamils' (Tamiḻ Kaḍavuḷ); wields the vēl, rides the peacock Paravani, and presides over the six sacred abodes (Arupadai Veedu). Later identified with Skanda/Kārttikeya.
