Kechatoma is the second of the two Orphans of the Sun, brother and constant companion of Jitoma. Together the two are raised in hardship after the slaying of their father, the Dawn Sun, and together they accomplish the labours of vengeance that clear the world of its early monsters. Where Jitoma rises as the diurnal sun, Kechatoma is his indispensable double; in some tellings he is associated with a second luminary of the night sky, the pairing of the two brothers mirroring the ordered succession of day and its counterpart.
