Muinájema is the being who owned fire in the origin time, before it passed to humankind. In the fire-winning narrative it is his household, and his unsuspecting daughter, who bring the disguised Fɨzido near the hearth to be warmed, whereupon the trickster snatches and swallows the flames. Muinájema curses him that the same fire will one day burn him, a curse fulfilled in the ordering of the world. His guardianship of fire places him among the primordial owners of goods that the culture-heroes must wrest away for the benefit of people; some tellings assign the ownership of fire instead to the supreme Father Juziñamui.
