Boysari

Uzbek · mortal · Uzbek traditional religion; continuing · mortal

Boysari (Baysari) is a Qungirot chieftain, brother of Boybori and father of Barchin. Like his brother, he obtains his child through vows at a shrine. When a dispute over tribute estranges the brothers, Boysari removes his ten thousand households, and the infant Barchin, to the country of the Kalmyks; this migration separates the betrothed cousins and generates the bride-winning journey that opens the epic.
