Bambura Yaka

Vedda · numen · Vedda traditional religion; continuing · numen

Bambura Yaka is a grim spirit who presides over yams and over the boar that despoils them. His ceremony re-enacts a boar hunt, a mimetic chase in which the beast is speared and killed. Although Bambura Yaka does little in the story recited over the rite, he is its principal object, invoked with Dunne Yakini and her husband's family attending upon him to ensure a good yield of yams and safety from the wild boar.
