Arthur

Welsh · mortal · post roman · mortal

THIS IS THE WELSH ARTHUR AND THE RECORD SAYS SO. There is no Round Table on it, no sword in a stone, no Lancelot, no Grail and no Avalon: those are French and later English, and this record is built from Culhwch ac Olwen, the Triads and the figures around them. The record carries no dates and does not assert that he existed. The corpus has no Arthurian tradition key and this batch does not create one; the tradition-key question this programme has raised in eight lanes applies here as sharply as anywhere, because Arthur is held in Welsh, Cornish, Breton, French and English traditions and the registry currently has him in none.
