Yompor Yompere is one of the elder brother-divinities of the sun Yompor Ror. When Ror set out for the place from which he would rise into the sky, his elder brothers Yompere, Yompuer and Etetar went ahead with their sisters-wives. Reaching the stream now called Opanmaso, Yompere paused with his wife Yachor Mamas to rest and wait for his younger brother, and there he turned to stone. At the sanctuary that bears his name near Tsachopen in the Oxapampa district, three great rocks are venerated as Yompere, his wife and his brother, with smaller stones as their children; the community continues to hold rites of gratitude there, making him a living focus of Yanesha devotion.
