Odzhin-pogil (Master of Fresh Water)

Yukaghir · deity · Yukaghir traditional religion; continuing · deity

Odzhin-pogil, 'Master of Fresh Water', is the spirit-owner of the rivers and lakes of the Yukaghir lands and of the fish that live in them. He completes the triad of principal masters of nature, standing beside Lebien-pogil (the Master of the Earth) and Chobun-pogil (the Master of the Sea); together these three partition the waters and lands of the earthly middle world. Like the other masters he must be respected by fishermen, who owe him a share of their catch.
