Kamári

Asháninka · numen · Asháninka traditional religion; continuing · numen

The kamári are the malevolent spirits, or demons, of Asháninka cosmology, the counterpart of the benevolent maninkari and tasorentsi. Brought forth by the dark creator Kientibakori, they bring sickness, misfortune, and death, and it is against them that the sheripiári shaman labors, using tobacco and the ayahuasca brew to see and to fight them. They inhabit the forest, the ravines, and the lower levels of the layered cosmos.
