Maninkari

Asháninka · numen · Asháninka traditional religion; continuing · numen

The maninkari, literally 'those who are hidden', are the invisible benevolent spirits who animate the world and dwell alongside people, plants, and animals. Ordinarily unseen, they become visible to the sheripiári, the tobacco shaman, and to those who drink the ayahuasca brew (kamárampi), through which the spirits teach, heal, and impart knowledge. They belong with the good powers, allied to the tasorentsi and opposed to the malevolent kamári.
