Axayacatl

Axayacatl took his own twin city and then met the one enemy the Mexica could not beat. Tlatelolco shared the island with Tenochtitlan, ran the greatest market in the Americas, and had its own ruler; he ended that and annexed it. Then he went west against the Tarascans of Michoacan, who had bronze weapons and a state as well organised as his own, and came back with a fraction of his army. The Mexica never tried Michoacan again. Two of his sons became tlatoani, and one of them met Cortés.
