Tuglay is the primordial old man of Bagobo myth, husband of Tuglibung, with whom he inhabits the world of the 'first time.' The couple are the progenitors of humankind and of the beings who became diwata; from their children descend the peoples of the earth and the powers of sky and underworld, among them Lumabat, Mebuyan, and Wari. Sources differ on their standing: Cole presents Toglai and Toglibong as the first man and woman, while Benedict's myth cycle treats the Tuglay and the Tuglibung as autonomous primal beings who instituted custom, magic, and the arts of living.
