Tangaro Loloqong
Banks Islands · deity · Banks Islands traditional religion; continuing · Recorded classification
Tangaro Loloqong, 'Tangaro the Foolish', is the dull-witted brother among Qat's eleven kin, all born together from the stone Qatgoro and all called Tangaro. He is proverbial for understanding nothing and doing everything the wrong way, the exact foil of the all-knowing Gilagilala; the two together give the cycle its paired figures of folly and wisdom. Like the rest of the brothers he shares in the jealousy of Qat and the plots against his life that Marawa the spider repeatedly foils.
