Arsay
Canaanite · deity · mythic · deity
Arsay is in the triad because of one line. The Baal Cycle names her once beside Pidray and Tallay, and scholarship has grouped the three ever since; the reference treatment is explicit that there is no evidence associating her with them anywhere else. Her name is built on the word for earth or underworld, which has produced two readings — groundwater or the world below — and neither has won. The record keeps her in the triad, because that is where the text puts her, and says on its face that the grouping rests on a single passage.
