Pfaujata is counted among the Anaposo, the primordial spirit-beings who taught and terrorised the ancestors and were slain in the first times. Like his fellows he is reenacted in the masked initiation. He belongs to the extensive company of named spirit-beings catalogued in the ethnographic record, of whom only the greatest, Ashnuwerta and Nemur, carry developed myths; the name is recorded with variant orthography.
