Elder daughter of the sage-king Yao and, with her younger sister Nuying, a wife of Shun — the marriage by which Yao tested Shun's virtue. On Shun's death the two sisters wept until their tears mottled the bamboo of the Xiang, then drowned in the river and became its goddesses (the Xiang Fei). Daughters of the mortal Yao, the sisters are mortal-tier by descent; their godhood is by apotheosis, recorded in vitalStatus.
