Li Tieguai

Chinese · deity · mythic · deity

The body is the story. In the standard account his spirit left it to travel, the body was burned in his absence as a corpse, and he had to take the only one available on his return, which belonged to a lame beggar who had just died. He is therefore a god who looks like the least of men by accident and stayed that way, and the medicine gourd he carries pours out for people who cannot pay. The registry, which held two Immortals, did not hold the one the poor pray to.
