Shaohao

Chinese · mortal · mythic prehistory · mortal

Eldest son of Huangdi and Leizu, full brother of Changyi; identified by the Shiji with Xuanxiao (玄囂) who dwelt at Qingyang. In the eastern-bird tradition (Zuozhuan) he rules a realm of bird-named offices and is counted among the Five Emperors in the Book-of-Documents stratum, though the Shiji main line routes the succession Huangdi -> Zhuanxu instead. His clan-name Jin Tian Shi places him at the west/metal pole opposite Taihao (Fuxi). Named in chinese_diku's and chinese_changyi's notes ('Xuanxiao / Shaohao, Huangdi's son and Changyi's brother') and chinese_huangdi's lifecycle ('Xuanxiao / Shaohao, whose descendants included Diku and Yao') until materialized here as the sibling and lineage link.
