Sinatemubadiye'i

Dobu · numen · Dobu traditional religion; continuing · numen

Sinatemubadiye'i is the sister of the petrified brothers Atu'a'ine and Aturamo'a. In the myth she was set facing inland rather than toward the sea; because she turned her back on the water she receives no Kula offerings but is given garden produce, and she is associated with the fertility of yams and gardens rather than with overseas valuables. Her stone stands near Sanaroa, close to Dobu, completing the trio of siblings that mark the Kula sea-route.
