Hu is the Egyptian theory of magic, compressed into one god. The premise is that a word said properly, by someone entitled to say it, does not describe the world but alters it — which is why spells are written down, why names are powerful, and why defacing a name defaces its owner. Atum makes the Ennead by speaking, and the speaking itself becomes a god who then rides in the boat. He travels with Sia, perception, which is the necessary other half: knowing what is the case, and then saying it into being.
