Alpanu

Alpanu is one of the named attendant goddesses who crowd the engraved backs of Etruscan mirrors — winged, wreathed, and usually somewhere near Turan, the goddess of love. She holds leaves and flowers, which is why she is read as a goddess of springtime as well as of love and friendship, and she is shown embracing Thanr and Achvizr, two more of the same circle. Her name is connected with alpan, a willing offering, so that it carries the sense of something freely given. A possible underworld aspect is also reported. She is recorded under the form Alpanu because a Caucasian deity named Alpan already stands in this registry; the two are unrelated.
