Son of Minos and Pasiphae; the unbeaten athlete-prince whose death at Athens — by envious rivals or by the Marathonian Bull sent by Aegeus — is the casus belli for Minos's war on Athens and the tribute of youths to the Minotaur. Father of Alcaeus and Sthenelus (taken by Heracles from Paros, Apollod. 2.5.9). Honoured with hero-cult at Athens under the by-name Eurygyes. Authored as quartigod by the descent math (Minos demigod 0.5 + unregistered Pasiphae as mortal 0, /2 = 0.25).
