Iphicles

Greek · mortal · heroic age · mortal

Mortal twin to Heracles by Alcmene (same mother, conceived the same night by Amphitryon while Heracles was conceived by Zeus in disguise as Amphitryon — the canonical "double-conception" of Apollod. 2.4.5–8). Father of Iolaus, the canonical-Heracles-charioteer-and-companion who assists in the Hydra and Cretan-Bull labors. Demonstrated his mortal-status when Hera's serpents arrived in the cradle: Heracles strangled them while infant Iphicles fled in terror (Pind. Nem. 1.35–55; Apollod. 2.4.8). Joined Heracles' Calydonian-Boar hunt and the Trojan-expedition against Laomedon. Killed by the Molionides (Cteatus and Eurytus) at the Battle of Pylos in some recensions; in others, dies in the Heraclid-pursuit campaigns.
