Mortal — infant son of Hector and Andromache, called Astyanax ('lord of the city') by the Trojans and Scamandrius by his father. The baby frightened by Hector's helmet-plume in Iliad 6; at the fall of Troy he was thrown from the walls so that no heir of Priam's house should survive to avenge it — the extinction of the male Dardanid line of Ilion (the junior, Aeneadan, branch alone continuing).
