Greek goddess of harmony and concord, daughter of Ares and Aphrodite and sister of Phobos and Deimos. Wedded to Cadmus, founder of Thebes, in a marriage attended by all the gods; she received the robe and necklace of Hephaestus, gifts later cursed for the Theban royal house. Mother of the Theban princesses Ino, Semele, Agave, Autonoe, and of Polydorus of Thebes. In old age she and Cadmus were transformed into serpents in Illyria and translated to Elysium.
