Scion of the Pelopid house (son of the quartigod Pelops); brother and lifelong enemy of Atreus. Seduced Aerope and seized the throne by the golden lamb; suffered the Thyestean feast — fed his own sons' flesh — and laid the curse that drives the Oresteia. To gain an avenger he begot Aegisthus on his own daughter Pelopia per the oracle. Briefly restored to Mycenae after Aegisthus killed Atreus, then expelled by Agamemnon and Menelaus; died in exile. Father of Pelopia and of Aegisthus.
