Troilus

Greek · scion · trojan war · scion

Scion — young son of Priam and Hecuba (begotten by Apollo in one tradition), whose survival to manhood was prophesied to guarantee Troy's survival. Achilles killed him early in the war in an ambush at the spring or the precinct of Thymbraean Apollo — a scene hugely popular in archaic vase-painting and alluded to in the Aeneid. (His medieval romance with Cressida is a much later, non-classical accretion, excluded here.)
