Mortal — daughter of the Phrygian Dymas (or of Cisseus), chief wife of Priam and queen of Troy; the great tragic mother of Greek myth. Bore Priam most of his principal children — Hector, Paris, Deiphobus, Helenus, Cassandra, Creusa, Polyxena, Troilus, Polydorus, Laodice. Her firebrand-dream foretold Troy's ruin through Paris. Enslaved at the city's fall, she avenged Polydorus by blinding Polymestor, and was finally transformed into a dog at Cynossema (Euripides; Ovid).
