Yoshikuni

Quartigod son of Yoshiie. Settled in Shimotsuke (modern Tochigi prefecture). Founder of the canonical Ashikaga and Nitta cadet-branches of the Minamoto clan through his two sons Yoshiyasu and Yoshishige — the two great medieval-Japanese warrior-houses that would later produce the Ashikaga shogunate (1336-1573, Ashikaga Takauji onward) and the Nitta-Yoshisada-led Kemmu Restoration of 1333.
