GI of Palenque

The Palenque Triad is the clearest surviving case of a Maya dynasty writing its own theology. K'inich Kan Bahlam II built three temples in the 690s, put one Triad god in each, and had the inscriptions run the gods' births and the kings' accessions in a single chronological sequence, so that his own succession fell out of the structure of the cosmos. The gods are three brothers and so were the last two kings; the argument is the architecture. GI is the eldest, and the registry had none of the three.
