Earth, called Amat, is the primordial female principle of Mohave cosmogony, consort of Sky and, with him, mother of the creators Matavilya and Mastamho. Their meeting at the beginning of things produces the first generation of divine beings; thereafter Earth, like Sky, plays little active part, the ordering of the world falling to her sons.
