Prupe is a cannibal ancestral old woman of the Marntandi clan. Once keen-sighted, she gradually went blind, which turned her cruel, and she devoured the children of the district, sparing only Koakanggi, the granddaughter of her sister Koromarange. Desiring the child's eyes to replace her own, Prupe abducted Koakanggi and fled to her camp at Prupangawand. Koromarange tricked her by handing her a leaking water-dish so that she was long delayed fetching water; returning to find the child gone, Prupe rushed out, was snared, and in her rage kicked her fire, which blazed up and burned her to death, leaving a great pit where her camp had stood.
