Mortal Roman matron of the gens Atia; daughter of Iulia Minor (Caesar's elder sister); niece of Gaius Iulius Caesar the Dictator. Married Gaius Octavius and bore Octavian (the future Augustus) on 23 September 63 BCE and Octavia Minor. Per Tacitus Dialogus 28, the third canonical example of the maternal-instruction matron of the late Republic alongside Cornelia mother of the Gracchi and Aurelia mother of Caesar. Second marriage to Lucius Marcius Philippus (consul 56 BCE) after Gaius Octavius's 58 BCE death; Philippus became Octavian's political-mentor through the period of Caesar's 44 BCE assassination. Died in 43 BCE; given a public funeral by triumviral decree.
