Carmenta

Carmenta is named for the carmen — the sung formula that is prophecy and spell at once — and she presides over birth and over what can be foretold about it. She had one of the minor flamens and a gate of Rome named after her, both marks of a genuinely old cult, and two festival days in January. Legend made her the mother of Evander and had her bring the alphabet to Latium, which is the sort of thing a goddess of formulae attracts. She is counted first of the four Camenae.
