Scion-tier (registry-floor) son of Aristomachus, leader of the third (successful) Heraclidae return to the Peloponnese. Inheritor of Argos by the Heraclidae lot-cast at the Isthmus per Apollodorus 2.8.4. Founder of the Argive Heraclidae royal line. Murdered by his own conspiring sons over the succession after favoring his son-in-law Deiphontes. The historical Macedonian Argead dynasty (Philip II, Alexander the Great) claimed eponymous descent from Temenus through Karanos per Herodotus 8.137-139, making this figure the canonical-genealogical anchor of the Macedonian royal claim to Heracles-descent — and through that claim, of Alexander's own demigod-self-conception.
