King of Dardania, named by Homer the richest of mortal men; owner of the three thousand marsh-mares twelve of whom Boreas sired as wind-swift foals (Iliad 20.219-229). Married Astyoche daughter of the river Simoeis; father of Tros, who gave Troy its name.
