Babhruvāhana
Hindu · quartigod · dvapara yuga · quartigod
Quartigod son of Arjuna (Indra-paternal demigod) by Citrāṅgadā of Maṇipūra. King of Maṇipūra by maternal-grandfather succession per the marriage-stipulation that excluded Citrāṅgadā's sons from the Kuru inheritance. The patricide-then-revival episode in Āśvamedhika Parva 79-81 — Babhruvāhana killing Arjuna during the Aśvamedha horse-pursuit, then Ulūpī (his stepmother, Iravan's mother) reviving Arjuna with the saṃjīvana-maṇi — is one of the canonical structural-tragic episodes of the Mahābhārata, paralleling Cú Chulainn × Connla, Rustam × Sohrab, and the broader Indo-European patricidal pattern.
