Tamayori-hime

Her name is not really a name: tamayori-hime is the standing term for a woman a divine spirit comes into, and it is used of several different figures in the early texts. That the mother of the first emperor of Japan is called 'the woman the god enters' is the clearest surviving trace of how the imperial line was originally conceived — not as descent from a god but as a woman being entered by one, repeatedly, down a chain.
