Ro'o

Tahitian · deity · mythic · deity

Ro'o is the Society-Islands Rongo/Lono — one of the four great gods, the god of the agricultural produce and the weather (Ellis), and the orator and messenger of the gods, especially of Tāne (Henry). He is invoked for the breadfruit harvest and the favourable seasons, and as the god of 'report' (ro'o) he is the herald of the pantheon. He is to be distinguished from the mortal fisherman Ro'o of the Ruahatu deluge, a mere homonym. Authored as a son/handiwork of Ta'aroa and brother of Tāne, Tū and 'Oro.
