Entered as a deity (the moon/tapa figure). Attestation note: Hina is present in the Tongan recension as the woman-in-the-moon (beating tapa; watcher over the fire-walkers, per Westervelt) and in the Maui and Hina-Sinilau tales, but in the Gifford/Collocott high theogony she is a legendary/tale figure rather than one of the great ranked gods. Wired into the Maui line as wife of Maui 'Atalanga and mother of Maui Kisikisi per the dominant genealogy (a variant of the cycle names the woman Sinailele). Sex female; immortal. Her own parentage is not securely given in the Tongan sources and is left empty (see SOLITARY note).
