Likalibutan is the eldest of the four children of the wind and the sea, a strong and ambitious being with a body of rock. Persuading his brothers Liadlaw and Libulan to join him, he assaults the gates of the sky to wrest the heavens from his grandfather Kaptan. The sky god drives them back and shatters them with his thunderbolts; Likalibutan's rocky body falls and becomes the land, the earth on which humankind would afterward stand. His name is the Bisaya word kalibutan, 'world.' The fourth child, the daughter Lisuga, who did not join the revolt, becomes the stars.
