Hurraya

Hurraya is what the war was for. Kirta's family has been destroyed — the epic opens on a king with no line at all — and El tells him in a dream where to go and what to ask for. He besieges Udum, refuses the ransom, and takes her, and she bears him the children the story needed. She is not a cipher in the poem: when Kirta falls ill it is her grief, and Thitmanat's, that the text lingers on, and Thitmanat's speech at her father's sickbed is one of the most-quoted passages in Ugaritic literature.
