Demigod son of Zeus by the Pleiad Electra and brother of Dardanus, founder-figure of the Samothracian mysteries of the Great Gods. He lay with Demeter in a thrice-ploughed field on Crete and fathered Plutus, the god of wealth (Odyssey 5; Theogony 969-974); for the union Zeus struck him dead with a thunderbolt.
